You already know that Lavazza makes great coffee. But there's more to the company than that: it's got sustainability at its heart, a value it seeks to encapsulate each year with its stunning photographic calendars.

This year, award-winning French photographer Denis Rouvre has shot the third instalment of the 'Earth Defenders' trilogy to create what has become the 'We Are What We Live' calendar in collaboration with Slow Food. Each person's face is set alongside an image of the landscape representing the environment in which they live and work, which is intended to portray the superimposition of the features of man and of nature.

The Asian Earth Defenders – on which this collection of images is based – are people whose sacrifice and dedication make it possible to improve the living conditions of the local communities and fight against the threat of climate change. Last year, Lavazza focused on Earth Defenders in South and Central America, and the year before was Africa.

Both of these are noble aims – made all the more relevant by this stunning presentation. Above are a selection of images from the calendar and you can watch behind-the-scenes footage here.
