Rye has been cultivated in Finland for centuries and is a core element of the eponymous bread eaten with frequency throughout the country, so it should come as no surprise that someone decided perhaps they should turn that ubiquitous grain, famed for its natural sweetness, into a whisky. In steps Kyrö. Started by a group of friends, in perhaps the most Finnish way ever, after a sauna session, the distillery has unsurprisingly quickly taken off, making big waves in the world of malt.
Over a decade after that fateful sweat sesh, Kyrö's full range has finally started to mature. With the introduction of different variants and additions, the distillery's core whisky range was finalised in 2023. The whisky is distilled in pot stills and non-chill filtered, before being aged in in ex-bourbon & New American oak casks. Choosing the best from both American and Scottish whisky traditions, the Kyrö whisky has the complexity of Scotch Single Malt and the accessibility of American rye.

Kyrö Malt Rye
The signature whisky. Like liquid rye bread in a bottle with notes of vanilla, caramel, dried fruits, and earthy rye.
Kyrö Malt Oloroso
Everybody’s darling, Kyrö's head distiller lovingly refers to Oloroso as “brunch whisky” with notes of nuts, dried fruits, and caramel.
Kyrö Peat Smoke
This whisky combines the Finnish terrain with Kyrö's rye whisky using 100% Finnish malted rye that is smoked using Finnish freshwater peat. Notes of mossy peat, grass, honey, partly cooked apples, and promise of rye spice.
Kyrö Wood Smoke
Following an old northern tradition the malt is alder smoked in a 100-year-old barn. This Whisky is smoky, fatty and has notes of bacon, campfire, vanilla, caramel and pepper, sweet smoke, and tar.
